1985 Mainship 36 DC Power Boat
$400.00 / Month
We are looking for 2 like-minded partners to join our ownership group. There are two other owners -
The boat is a very well maintained 1985 Mainship 36DC. Two cabins - a huge aft cabin with full size bed and head with separate walk-in shower and a forward V-berth cabin. Second forward head with Purasan System (holding tank not required). Large salon with separate dining table and large galley and refrigerator/freezer. Large enclosed aft deck with dining table faces downtown SF and the Bay Bridge. Raised bridge with bimini and plenty of room on the forward deck.
Boat is docked in South Beach Harbor San Francisco - right next to the Giant's ballpark and the Muni Metro & CalTrain stations. There is also a parking pass for the lot directly next to the marina (and the ballpark). Easy access off the Embarcadero from the Bay Bridge or King Street exit off 280 North.
We are the third owner - purchased in May 2018 after a full survey and we then had the boat hauled and fully serviced before sailing to the SF Bay. Boat had previously been kept in the Delta so very limited exposure to saltwater prior to our purchase. We are hands-on owners who enjoy taking care of basic maintenance tasks - but use the professionals for hauling, bottom paint, major services, etc.
The boat has two owners - one who has moved back to the East coast and will only be able to return to use the boat when feasible given the new normal of COVID. The second owner lives North of San Francisco uses the boat as a place to have cocktails in SF or occasionally stay overnight. The boat was purchased with this in mind - given the large deck on the stern and huge (for a boat) aft cabin. South Beach Harbor also has boat owner bathrooms (with showers), laundry facilities, and parking. Note: liveaboards are not permitted - we are looking for partners who might want to spend an occasional night/weekend in the city.
She is a great cruising boat for the bay. The dual engines makes her pretty easy to maneuver for a large boat. We have had her out for Fleet Week and occasional trips out to the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, Treasure Island, etc. But she has spent most of her time at the dock - a big reason we decided to bring on partners. While she is generally easy to navigate, it helps to have at least a crew of 3 people with decent sailing skills for docking/lines/fenders/etc. The ideal partners will be comfortable with these things and have an interest in taking the boat on occasion.
The partners are both 50+ responsible adults with families in the SF area who occasionally join us on the boat - usually for cocktail hour (sometimes before Giant's game in the times before COVID). Age aside, we are looking for partners with similar interests and most importantly responsible and respectful. We are not looking for huge parties or tons of people on the boat at all times. If you are looking for a great place to escape a few times a month, take the boat out for a spin with your own group - or other partners - every now and then, you might be a great fit for us. And we also have a friend with a great sailboat who is known to take people out in exchange for some good beer if you prefer sailing over motoring.
One owner has a brother who lives in SF who is essentially a "sweat -equity" partner. He helps keep everything in good working order - while not a boat mechanic, he knows when to call in someone who is and helps to make sure we address any mechanical issues as they pop up. This is a boat - issues will and do pop up. The rationale is we want a situation where the paying partners know that taking care of boat issues is not their responsibility - but taking care of the boat to avoid creating these issues most certainly is.
Finally - all financials and record keeping are the responsibility of the largest shareholder. All financial records have been kept since the purchase of the boat and are available to all partners to review. All purchase and costs are discussed and agreed to with the partners. The "standard" ongoing costs include: slip fees, insurance, bottom cleaning and zinc replacements, and California property tax. Other projected costs are estimated and budgeted for in the monthly fees including hauling and bottom paint, service and repairs, cleaning supplies, and boat and dock supplies. Partners will be responsible for the monthly fees and we prefer partners willing to purchase a small ownership percentage (10% - 20%).
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
